Due to the shallow water and warm weather, the Norfolk Reed has thrived this year in the New River Green section of the river. Despite several attempts to clear a channel the river was blocking with branches and leaves catching on the reeds.
Norfolk Reed has a massive underground root and rhizome system which is backbreaking and difficult to deal with. However volunteers succeeded in digging and pulling the reeds’ roots and runners armed with garden forks. It is hoped that a more sustainable solution to this problem can be found.
