A botanical survey was carried out by a Cambridge botanist on the wildflower area at Swan Lane and 41 different plants were identified.
The area will be strimmed in a few weeks which will encourage fresh growth and seed dispersal.
Plants found included the interesting and colourful bee orchid which is a sneaky mimic – the flower’s velvety lip looks like a female bee. Male bees fly in to try to mate with it and end up pollinating the flower. Sadly, the right bee species doesn’t live here, so this orchid is self-pollinated in the UK.
