In May last year, the Seven Springs stopped running and if it had not been for the Environment Agency’s augmentation the river would have been dry between then and early February 2026 when the first spring started to trickle again.
The ground water levels have now risen and the lower springs including the Roman Baths are flowing. We are very fortunate to have this augmentation as many of the chalk streams in the area do not and therefore are unable to support any ‘life’ when the groundwater level drops.
