Gravel berms set to improve river flow at Ducks Lane

In early April, 32 tonnes of reject flint and 16 tonne of a mixture of 20 mm and 40 mm gravel was delivered to the Duck Pond. With the use of a grabber lorry it was possible to place the majority directly into the river and the remainder was bucketed in by volunteers. Gravel berms (raised barriers) have been created which will increase the sinuosity of the river, helping to speed the flow and clean the water.

The raised areas have become a popular ablutions and sleeping area for the mallard ducks and many sticklebacks can be seen in the reject flint by the bench.
